This past Saturday was the first snowfall in Milwaukee. We only received an inch or so, but I marched out and bought myself a pair of heavy duty snow boots: Sorel Caribou Winter Boots. They're huge and heavy and I love them. I haven't had proper winter footwear since I was ten with my furry pink moon boots. I really don't mind if I look like I should be on a mountain instead of the sidewalk. My feet will be warm and dry. And with the addition of neon laces, my boots will walk all over you!

My glorious boots!

Antiques Rodashow is my favorite show. I love items they feature, and it's fascinating to listening to stories of how people acquired their items. The best is when a person buys a cup and saucer at a yard sale for 25 cents and it is appraised at $25,000.

I had the biggest crush on Prince William when I was a teenager. He is such a dreamboat: blonde, tan, tall, and so dapper-looking in suits. But, when he announced his engagement on Tuesday, I, alas, was not named the fiance. Kate Middleton is the lucky English rose. I guess not all Tiger Beat dreams can come true. Anyway, seeing pictures of Ms. Middleton in hats and party dresses reminded me of the very distinct style of the royals. It is always polished, tasteful, and classic. Yes, Queen Elizabeth II is a little dowdy nowadays, but she rocks the royal jewelry. Here are a few pictures of what I consider great royal style. Long Live the Queen!

Five inch high heels have dominated fashion for as long as I can remember. They are supposed to make women feel powerful and feminine, as well as keep podiatrists in business. However, shoe trends seem to be lower to the ground lately. Kitten heels, which have a 1.5 to 2 inch height, are appearing on runways and streets all over. Not only are they easier to walk in, but they have a grace and polish taller heels lack. They offer a boost and can be just as ornate and glitzy as any platform heel. I've never owned a pair, but I think it might be time to explore this option!

I love when I find pictures of my mom when she was a teenager and in her twenties. What a babe. She had sun-streaked hair and a deep tan from lifeguarding and donned a minimalist bohemian style. Maxi dresses and Dr. Scholl's slides were wardrobe staples. Since I look to her past for style ideas, the blog My Mom, The Style Icon is a favorite of mine. The site shows pictures of readers' mothers from all different eras sporting all different styles. Seeing the clothing of the various decades in everyday life on real women is inspiring and captivating. Somehow all the moms look like supermodels! Love it. Check out the blog and submit!

Without fail, every fall, my hair twists into braids. Maybe my tresses know they will be covered for the next five months with a hat so they want to play. Right now, I favor two plaits pinned on top of my head to create milkmaid braids. It's easy to do and has some flair. I feel a little like Heidi in the Swiss Alps, but also a tad bohemian. And for me, that's the perfect combination.

This past weekend, Tina and I drove to Madison to visit a few vintage stores. We only  bought a few iems, but we had quite the time trying on clothes, searching the racks, and surveying the city. Here are some shots of the day. Hope you like them!

When people ask me to describe my style, I will now say, "Swedish." It makes sense. I'm of Swedish Viking descent and, standing six feet tall, I am basically walking advertisement for the country. Moreover, with my recent acquisition of Swedish Hasbeens High Heeled Jodhpurs in Apple Green, I'm all set to represent my people. However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I also desperately want to align myself with the uber stylish ladies featured on the many blogs highlighting Scandinavian style. Copenhagen Street Style is my favorite site for showcasing gorgeous men and women in their unique looks. I also adore how half the pictures feature bicycles. It's so Euro it hurts.

To keep ties to my Womens Studies Minor, I subscribe to BUST Magazine, a periodical filled with feminism, fashion, design, art, DIY projects, analysis, and pop culture. One of my favorite features is called "Looks" whick profiles different fashion looks of interesting and creative women. In the August/September issue, visual artist and reflexologist Debra Rapoport is profiled.

"Stevie Nicks is the coolest person ever," said Tina when I played 'Rhiannon' for the the 57th time today. We're all kind of obsessed with the singer-songwriter. The throaty voice, the wild hair, the shawls, the love affairs, the tambourine... She's just so fantastic.
