I love the color camel. When I see the shade, I immediately think of chic Burberry trench coats and the winter coats of Park Avenue ladies. Camel instantly creates an air of sophistication. It also grounds brightly colored outfits. Unfortunately, camel makes me look jaundice, so I suffer from camel envy. When I saw the Madame Figaro Greece editorial below, my jealousy skyrocketed. Every outfit is perfect, especially the full skirted coat. The shades of camel are incredibly chic and inspiring. Please, if you can wear the color, do it! I'll be resentful, but you'll look fabulous!
This is the coolest. Germany's ZEIT Magazin chose to celebrate their 40th anniversary issue with Claudia Schiffer. Good call. She's one of my favorite supermodels. I wanted to grow up to be just like her when I saw her in a Guess perfume ad at nine years of age. The magazine doesn't just put her on the cover; they put her on 40s covers. Each cover is different with various looks from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. There are references to Twiggy, Courtney Love, Jane Fonda, Jerry Hall, and Madonna. I wish I could collect them all! Here are a few of my favorites:
I almost screamed when I saw the editorial "Like A Movie" in Vogue Italia's September 2010 issue. Starring model Elisa Sednaoui and photographed by Miles Aldridge, the 1962 thriller Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? is perfectly captured. When I first saw this movie I was terrified. Bette Davis is Jane, a washed up child's star, "taking care" of her paralyzed sister Blanche, played by Joan Crawford, who eclipsed her in fame as an adult. What makes their onscreen murderous rivalry more delicious is the fact that the stars despised each other in real life. Jane's oversized doll look is incredibly creepy and well done by Aldridge. Take a look at the editorial and rent the film!
I’m in love with Lula magazine. Based out of London, their mission is, “gentle, whimsical and ethereal in tone, mixing high fashion to fall in love with.” Lula is more than a magazine. It’s more like a fairy tale book for grown-up ladies.
But, like most loves, Lula plays hard to get. It’s not displayed among Vogue and Elle at the local drugstore and only comes out twice a year. However, if you are lucky enough to get a subscription or find a copy online, you’ve hit the jackpot. From cover to cover, Lula is stunning and lovely. The fashion spreads are incredibly detailed and most have a hazy, romantic, vintage feel.
