Vintage Dress Shopping at SXSW
Last Friday, I met up with Pamela from Market Publique for a lunch and shopping extravaganza at SXSW. We stopped by various stores and pop-up shops on South Congress, and I finally got my cupcake from Austin's famous airstream-trailer-turned cupcake cart Hey Cupcake!
On a mission for a dress for Market Publique's 1-year-anniversary party on Saturday, we found tons of options at this little tent pop-up. The winning dress was a beautiful skinny-strap black and red striped sun dress:

I *love* this dress on Pamela! It was a perfect fit! Inspired by Pamela's success, I couldn't resist purchasing this micro-mini hot-pants denim romper:

We also fell in love with this amazing Mexican abalone fish necklace:

A close-up - the fish's mouth is open!

My stomach turned a bit when I saw this dress (below). I know that cropping garments shorter than their original length makes lots of dresses cuter and more wearable! But, I demand quality hemming - an uneven or choppy hem is never cute! And, this particular shop, which saw fit to crop absolutely everything that came through its doors, had cropped this gorgeous full-length 40s cocktail dress to hip-length! It completely ruined the silhouette and kind of made me wonder: what kind of person does this? Look at the lovely sash hanging down sadly below the hem!

Oh well! Moving on...
It's not a proper get-together without dessert! The cupcake trailer:

What a perfect afternoon in March! Thanks, Pamela!!

Oh gosh, that is crazy!
Oh gosh, that is crazy! Baffling is a perfect
word to describe it, too!

I live in Austin and see the same, sloppily chopped hems on dresses at Buffalo Exchange! It baffles me!! Horrifying what they did to that FORTIES dress!
Yikes! Who would do that?
